After flying into Calgary and having a little explanation to do with the Canadian Immigration Officer (Why are you here AGAIN?!) I needed to get a new ride for my upcoming roadtrip. I prebooked the cheapest option, knowing that I will be able to upgrade for a better deal when I get the car. And hell, did they give me an awesome deal. Ford Mustang Convertible! You guys should have seen my smile (or better: grin) after rolling out of the airport, over to my hotel for the night.

My ride for the next couple of weeks #mustang #convertible #ford

Since I was bound to meet with Graham, Marianne and Stephanie in Field, BC the following day, I took the chance to pass by Banff, Moraine Lake and Lake Louise to spend some time.

On Canada Day, July 1st, we ended up going for a hike up to Lake O’Hara in Yoho National Park. Is there a more divine and beautiful place in the world?!

I spent a couple of days in Invermere, BC, where I chilled out at the beach, paddled the kayak and went for some swims.

Been paddling for a bit today #canada #kayak #bc

After those few days with my dear friends I passed by Kelowna for a couple of nights, enjoying the Okanaghan Valley before driving up north to Kamloops, again meeting friends from my time studying at TRU.

Oh, well. #memorylane #cjs #kamloops #bc

Finally, the long awaited drive down to my favourite city, Vancouver. Due to the smoke from the wildfires in the area I decided against taking the route via Lake Kamloops and Whistler, instead going the most direct way. There’s honestly not much to say about my time in Vancouver, since I mainly just caught up with all these amazing human beings I can call my friends that live in and around my favourite city. We had quite some amazing nights out. I got to finally have a tour of Rogers Arena, the Vancouver Canuck’s home arena, sitting in the General Managers Chair, taking my spot at the locker room and being sent to the penalty box was all part of the experience.

They put me in the penalty box. #nasty @canucks #wheresthegreenmen #rogersarenatour #yvr #hockey

There’s one thing though, that made my stay even more special – I had my very first flight lesson in a Cessna 172! MOST EXCITING THING I DID ALL MY LIFE. After some instructions by my flight instructor Andrew, we taxied to Runway 19 at Abbotsford International Airport and I was allowed to take off with the plane, under close instruction of Andrew. We gained some height and headed east towards Cultus Lake, where I was allowed to take some turns and get a feel for the aircraft before Andrew took over again to show me what a stall of the airplane feels like and how to regain control when in a stall. We took some more turns and started the descent to Runway 19 again, where, after lining the plane up to the Runway I was handed over control to land it – which I did flawlessly (according to Andrew). But have a look on the entire flight yourself here:

I don’t think I will ever be able to leave this city without feeling sad about it.

I don’t ever want to leave this city again.
