Home again, at last. What a ride it has been the last two months – I drove over 5000 km by myself across deserts, mountain passes, on highways and dirt roads, spend more than 50 hours sitting on trains, flew across oceans and continents, slept in different places almost every day, saw landscapes I still can’t comprehend and did things I never imagined I would ever be doing. Finally (you might say), I made it to my last stop: Toronto. I had heard many things about the city – most prominently I remember the saying that it’s “like New York run by the Swiss”. I definitely had to go and check out if there’s any truth to that (although my judgement might be seriously impaired, since I’ve never set a foot onto the city of New York). Coming in late in the evening from Winnipeg, I checked into the hostel and made myself comfortable, enjoying a quite night on the hostel’s rooftop. It’s hard to argue with a view like that. (more…)
After all these amazing days spent with friends in BC it was time to get on the road back east – I had to return my car in Calgary and get a train from Edmonton to Winnipeg where I was going to fly to Toronto.
After flying into Calgary and having a little explanation to do with the Canadian Immigration Officer (Why are you here AGAIN?!) I needed to get a new ride for my upcoming roadtrip. I prebooked the cheapest option, knowing that I will be able to upgrade for a better deal when I get the car. And hell, did they give me an awesome deal. Ford Mustang Convertible! You guys should have seen my smile (or better: grin) after rolling out of the airport, over to my hotel for the night. (more…)
