After a long day of traveling, getting up at 4.15am and a 7 hour layover in Edmonton, I finally landed around half past 7 at night in Vegas – a beautiful scenery.
Getting out of the airport it hit me though – after the relatively calm and nice surroundings and cold weather in Nova Scotia, coming to a desert with 37 degrees celsius, with more lights fighting for your attention than there are trees in Canada, constant music and noise and simply being the world capital of egocentrics and party town of america, all I needed was a glass of wine, followed by a bed. I didn’t do much the next few days, mostly just staying in the hotel, the Grand Downtown, enjoying the pool and the amenities that come with room service and having everything you need in the same house.
Omg I’m in Vegas. Just checking if there’s no tiger in the bathroom…

Update: there wasn’t.
Going from a place like Nova Scotia to Las Vegas is the most shocking experience of my life. #amIdreaming #lightseverywhere #casino — Fabio Casutt (@nummerus) June 13, 2015

The hotel is not on the Strip, which makes it far more affordable, plus the downtown area has some nice places as well, that I would have missed out otherwise. After the first shock wore off and I got used to the climate I ventured to see some more of the city, especially the Strip.

I eventually ended up gambling a few dollars as well, though I only did so to get some free drinks (drinks are complementary as long as you’re gambling). I ended up gaining 65 cents and two free Heineken. Not bad for a beginner.
After 4 nights I was completely refreshed and it was time to head for new adventures. Vegas is definitely something everyone needs to see once in a life, and I really liked it – it’s okay for a couple of days of hanging out at a pool, having some drinks, placing some bets and gamble for a bit. But that’s it, for me at least.
